The Many Uses of Ceramics

Ceramics are one of the most popular durable materials of our time, that can withstand any weather conditions and a wide rang of temperatures. Although they have been around for ages, new uses for ceramics are continuously being discovered. Piezo ceramic element for example, is being used by manufacturers to create resonance in sound producing devices such as microphones, headphones, and all types of stereos.

Ceramic brake pads on the other hand are now being preferred as compared to their asbestos and steel counterparts due to the advantages they offer. Technically, they can run silently, last longer, safer to use as compared to asbestos, and even increase the lifespan of your tires. And when it comes to wheels and machines, developments on ceramic ball bearings have proven that this material can indeed further advance our technology. Ceramic ball bearings are lighter as compared to steel but are amazingly tougher and have a lengthier life span. They reduce friction thereby allowing the machine or the wheel to run at greater speeds as opposed to steel ball bearings. These are some of the innovations that were made possible because of ceramics.

Of course, traditional uses of this material are still very relevant and can be seen in a lot of houses. Ceramics continues to be favored when it comes to kitchen wares such as a ceramic tea strainer, plates, or in some cases even as ceramic dog bowls. They can also be displayed outside playfully and beautifully as ceramic garden pixies, ceramic house numbers, and ceramic garden stools. And they are almost in every bathroom as floor or wall tiles. Ceramics if taken care of properly are strong enough to last you more than a lifetime. Perhaps this is the reason why drilling ceramic tile and removing ceramic tile can be very difficult. They are very beautiful, but quite tough to handle. You don’t have to worry much about it though, if by chance you need to accomplish one of these tasks, all you have to do is read about it and learn a couple of techniques to effectively drill a hole or remove a tile.

5 Ways to Amplify an Acoustic Guitar

Most people learning acoustic guitar probably have at least some interest or aspiration of performing in live settings.

One issue that arises is volume. Acoustic instruments are only so loud.

In larger venues, this simply is not practical. Venues with excellent acoustics, multiple instrumentalists playing the same parts, and quiet, attentive audiences work for orchestras, but it is quite impractical for acoustic guitarists. Instead, electrical amplification is the predominant solution. This does not mean playing an electric guitar, per se, but instead focusing on equipment that more faithfully projects the actual tone of an acoustic guitar.

1. Microphone

A very common option is simply to place a microphone near the guitar and play through the PA. This is one of the easier solutions, since most venues do have a PA already installed. It is also probably the most faithful reproduction of the sound, while increasing the volume. However it is the most problematic:

The microphone can feedback
It does not selectively pick up the guitar
Slight changes in the guitar’s distance from the microphone will create an audible change in volume.
The guitarist must be absolutely still while performing.
It requires more time for set up to ensure there are no feedback issues.

2. Magnetic Pick Ups

Magnetic pick ups usually affix to the sound hole of the guitar and work similar to the pick ups on electric guitars. The string movements are detected by magnets, which relay the signal to the amp. This is one of the more hassle free solutions. As an add-on, a lot of magnetic pick ups can be put on and taken off a guitar with ease. A very nice benefit for people with vintage or expensive guitars. These pick ups do not work for classical guitars because the nylon strings do not effect the pick ups.

3. Piezo Pick Ups

Similar to the magnetic pick ups. However piezo pick ups are put into the bridge of the guitar and detect the vibration of the string. Since it is detecting the string vibration directly, piezo pick ups work on classical guitars. Attaching piezo pick ups could require permanent alterations to the guitar. A large amount of modern Acoustic-Electric Guitars come with these installed.

4. Specially Made Guitars

There are quite a number of hybrid guitars out there made specifically with acoustic amplification in mind. Some are more electric guitars with a piezo bridge to give an approximation of an acoustic guitar sound without having to change guitars. Others are acoustic guitars with piezo bridges. There are also designs that attempt to more thoroughly hybridize the design. Whether it is worth getting a new guitar is going to vary depending on a person’s needs. Quite often the main reason for hybrid guitars is simply to eliminate the need to carry separate acoustic and electrical guitars to performances, even if some sound quality is lost.

5. Acoustic Amps

Modern electric guitar amps are usually voiced specifically for electrical guitars, sometimes to the extent of having specific genres and styles in mind. While a standard electrical guitar amp can be connected to an acoustic guitar, it is not as good of an option as using an amp intended specifically to amplify an acoustic guitar. The qualities an electrical guitarist look for in an amp are not the same as what an acoustic guitarist looks for, something to bear in mind when looking for an amp.

Nursery Room Design For Development of Trust and Language

Striking the balance between soothing your baby, and stimulating her/his brain development is the mark of good nursery room design and decor.

Babies are sensitive to sound, and startle when exposed to sudden loud noises. The noise of a busy street would not be appropriate stimuli for a baby, so put the nursery where the sounds will be in your control. Music is a great way to stimulate your babies brain. Musical mobiles, instruments, and other music playing devices like a CD player, are good design choices for a nursery, as long as you keep the volume low. Change the music from complex and upbeat when the baby is alert and seeking stimulation, to simple and soothing when the baby needs down time. Some music stimulates the brain in ways that help in learning math.  You don’t need a fancy stereo system, something inexpensive will do.

Language is of paramount importance to brain stimulation and development. Talk to your baby when ever s/he is alert and interested. Have interesting visual stimuli where you change your baby’s diapers, and then talk to your baby about those things while changing her/him. Point to the picture or object, and repeat the name. Smile and respond audibly to your baby’s attempts to communicate. If the baby coos, coo back. This teaches that s/he is heard and that communication goes both ways.

Your early conversations will be funny sounds and single words with smiles and encouraging, loving tones. That’s enough to help develop their brains. But to develop trust, baby’s need to know you’ll comfort them when they cry. If your baby can not be heard from where you are, use a device that transmits the sounds they make to you where ever you are in the house. That way, you’ll quickly go to them when they cry, and they’ll learn trust. If the device has the option of transmitting both ways, you can immediately answer your baby with soothing words that s/he’ll learn to mean “I’m on my way to help you”.

Why should you include teething rings when you choose an array to decorate your nursery? For the baby to develop the muscle control needed to speak intelligible words, they need teething toys. Babies chew them and move their tongues along them, strengthening the muscles necessary to form discrete sounds that will be stung together to make words.

Chew toys in the crib, on the diaper table, and on the play mat are a good idea. Babies also develop gross and fine motor control when reaching for chew toys and other interesting objects to grasp and bring closer to them. Allow the baby to make a small effort to attain a toy, by putting it within reach, but not in her/his hand or mouth. You can dangle them like a mobile. Choose different colors, and make it a decor accent piece.

Classic Chevy’s – 1955 Chevrolet – Part 1

A nation of drivers were home bound starting in 1942 with the beginning of the United States involvement in WWII. Automobile production was halted that year as manufacturers geared up to make airplane, trucks and tanks and what ever else was needed for the war effort. It wasn’t until the 1950s that the big three auto makers, GM, Ford and Chrysler began to reinvent the automobile. The 1949, 1950, 1951, 1953 and 1954 Chevrolets received only modest facelifts and were called dull but dependable. However, in 1955, 1956 and 1957 appearance and engineering was changed radically by Chevrolet. Who was responsible for the new Chevy’s? Chuck Jordon, Harley Earl and especially Edward Nicholas Cole, Chevrolet’s Chief Engineer.

In May of 1952 General Motors, Chevrolet stylist and Ed Cole began a three year run on what the old car collectors 50 years later would call the best of the 1950s Classic Cars. The first Chevrolet produced during this new era of low price dream cars, was the 1955 Chevrolet. It was introduced as the “Hot One”. A national love affair was about to began.

Chevrolet shed its dull old image in 1955, replacing it with all new “Motoramic” styling. “Don’t argue with this baby” warned one Chevrolet ad in 1955. Chevy did have a lot to boast about that year and it knew it. Completely redesigned, with lots of styling, accessories, and a powerful new V-8 it was generally the most changed Chevy since WWII.

The 1955 Chevrolet had 3 different models, Bel Air, Two-Ten and One-Fifty, and 16 new body styles! The Bel Air Convertible, Sport Coupe 2 door hard top, 4 door sedan, 2 door sedan, Beauville 4 door station and the Nomad 2 door station wagon. The mid level Two-Ten Sport Coupe 2 door hard top, Delray Club Coupe 2 door, 4 door sedan, 2 door sedan, Townsman 4 door station wagon and the Handyman 2 door station wagon. The lower cost models were the One-Fifty 4 door sedan, 2 door sedan, 2 door utility sedan and the Handyman 2 door station wagon. Even more appealing body colors were available in 1955, with 14 solid color options and 21 new two-tone combinations.

The new 1955 Chevrolet offered a V-8 engine for the first time in 35 years. It was named the 265 cubic inch “Turbo-Fire” V-8 which delivered 162 horsepower with a 2 barrel carburetor and 180 horsepower with a 4 barrel carburetor. Also available was Chevrolet’s old reliable 235 cubic inch six cylinder that developed 123 horsepower. Transmissions included a 3-speed standard, 3-speed with overdrive and the Powerglide.

The new Chevrolet’s were smoother, lower and longer looking. A grand total of 1,704,667 1955 Chevy’s were produced, setting a production record in 1955. In response to this large demand only one question remained. What would Chevy do for an encore? The answer was the 1956 Chevrolet (Part 2).

The Best Wholesale Products to Sell Online

Whether you’re a small business, a home-based entrepreneur, or a more established enterprise with a whole horde of employees, finding the best wholesale products you can is key to successfully selling online. Today’s consumers can be a fickle bunch, and what works one day could be “old news” by the next.

When you sell online, whether through an online auction like eBay, or through your own eCommerce site, you need to have a source for wholesale products that can be as flexible as you require, and as reliable as they can be. Nothing will discourage return visitors faster than the dreaded “on back order” or “temporarily out of stock” messages.

Online auctions have become a popular method for selling products online. It’s simple to get set up and simple to list products and get started.

That does not, however, mean that it is simple to make money. It can be done (many thousands do it every day), but it will take some work and some commitment.

For example, to become an eBay PowerSeller and gain all the trust that comes along with that title, you must meet certain sales revenue requirements for three months straight. The best way to make sure this happens is to be connected to a legitimate and reliable seller of wholesale products.

So what are the best wholesale products to sell online? That depends on three factors:

One: what is the market like? Sometimes consumers are more interested is some items than others. Is the market on the upswing, or is it hovering over the edge, about to fall into a deep chasm? By doing the appropriate research you can discover whether or not a certain market will bare the appearance of another seller or if the product is three days away from becoming outdated junk.

Two: even wholesale products might not be cheap enough for you to make a justifiable profit. If this is the case, then you could end up wasting a lot of time and resources on an ultimately unproductive effort.

An example could be the electronics industry. Without a doubt, electronics are always some of the more popular consumer items. People love them, and sellers love to sell them. Unfortunately, most electronics – whether video games or stereo equipment – have a very small markup. Sellers who make their living in electronics usually depend on volume sales. So if you can sell in that kind of volume, go for it. Otherwise you should consider products with a lower wholesale price point.

Three: you actually ought to be interested in the products you sell. No matter what wholesale products you find, or what method you choose to sell them, it all boils down to the fact that you have to sell them. You have to list, promote, and describe your products. If you have no idea what makes fashion fashionable or bleeding edge technology so sanguine, you’re going to be at a disadvantage in the marketplace.

Research and knowhow is what bind these factors together. You need to know how online selling works, and you need to discover products or industries that have the potential to hold your interest and make you money.

Suppliers of wholesale products can also be difficult to come by. They need to be reliable and provide quality products so you know that your consumers are getting the best items possible.

Once you’ve found these wholesale suppliers, however, you should do everything you can to keep a strong relationship with them. When you do, you can rest assured that you will have the ability to continually sell the best wholesale products.
